How to Create and Restore Website Backups in cPanel
One of the most important aspects of website management is keeping regular backups of your data. A backup is a copy of all your website files and databases stored in a safe location. In case of data loss, hacking, or server issues, you can restore your website from a backup and minimize downtime.
Why Are Backups Important?
Backups protect you from various scenarios including accidental file deletion, malware attacks, database corruption, and hosting provider failures. By maintaining regular backups, you ensure that your website can be quickly restored to a previous working state.
Automatic Backups with YallHost
At YallHost, we perform automatic daily backups of your entire hosting account. These backups are stored on separate secure servers and are retained for a period of time. However, we recommend also creating your own manual backups for additional security.
How to Create a Manual Backup in cPanel
Step 1: Log in to cPanel
Access your cPanel account through your YallHost Client Area.
Step 2: Navigate to Backup
Scroll down to the Files section and click on the Backup icon.
Step 3: Choose Backup Type
You will see several backup options:
- Full Backup: Backs up everything including all domains, databases, and email accounts.
- Partial Backup: Allows you to select specific domains, databases, or email accounts to backup.
- Download a Full Website Backup: Creates a backup file that you can download to your computer.
Step 4: Complete the Backup
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete your backup. Depending on the size of your website, this may take several minutes.
How to Restore from a Backup
Step 1: Access Backup Restoration
In cPanel, go to Files → Backup and look for the Restore a Full Backup option.
Step 2: Select Backup File
Choose the backup file you want to restore from the list of available backups.
Step 3: Confirm Restoration

Best Practices for Backups
- Create Regular Backups: Create backups at least weekly, or more frequently if you update your website often.
- Download Backups Locally: Download backup files to your computer for additional security.
- Test Restoration: Periodically test restoring from a backup to ensure the process works correctly.
- Store Multiple Copies: Keep backups in multiple locations (local computer, cloud storage, etc.).
